I was recently asked, "If you won the lotto or retired today, what
would you do?" I answered the same way that I have for years. I would
be that crazy old guy with a beard that builds awesomely useful and creative furniture, art, and so on in his
backyard. Then it hit me. Why wait?
After my awaking of sorts, I realized that I was on a boring and unfulfilled path. I am speaking only of how I have been making a living. The rest of my life is great. I am lucky to have a beautiful and intelligent wife. She is very supportive. I have also been given a wonderful son. Watching him discover the wonders of life has been immensely inspiring and rewarding. My parents have also been wonderfully supportive. I am truly lucky. The last few weeks have been amazing. Once I knew the direction that I wanted to go, I enrolled in school to learn cabinet-furniture making and woodworking. I am completely absorbed in the process of learning. I haven't even started my first day of classes yet.
This blog or journal is an experiment. Something that I hope will show my future-self how far I have come. I found that I am happiest when I am free to be creative and live at a slower more reasonable pace. I have always enjoyed creating, crafting, and building. I have a special bond with woodworking. So again I say, why wait? I didn't win the lotto, but I did find my path. If I had won the lotto, things would be roughly the same. I would probably just be doing the same thing on a private island like a bond villain and I would have a legion of well trained attack eagles.
Hopefully, this journal will keep me inspired, honest and motivated.
